Example of a Project

A typical JobshopLean project begins with the client company being asked to submit the relevant data as an Excel spreadsheet (PFAST Input File). This Excel spreadsheet is input to PFAST which generates another Excel spreadsheet that contains a variety of outputs (PFAST Analysis Report). Different combinations of the outputs in the PFAST Analysis Report are used to implement a variety of layout improvements such as:

  • Moving machines to new locations
  • Grouping several machines into a cell (or even a partial cell)
  • Changing the routings of some parts
  • Duplicating the same machine at different locations
  • Eliminating certain parts from the product mix, etc.

In order to implement the above layout improvements, it becomes necessary to implement various Lean “tools” such as Work Cells, 5S, Setup Reduction, Total Productive Maintenance, Cross-training, SQDC Performance Tracking Boards, etc. For this particular project, please click here to access the final presentation Implementing JobshopLean in a Castings Repair Facility that we gave to the executive team of the client company summarizing our activities and recommendations for implementation.
